Designing for Tablets

Designing web pages on a tablet is one of the many advantages for such a device. Tablets have become the preferred mobile computing device for many users as well as full-fledged web developers and those who are building blogs or personal websites. If you need to design while on a tablet, it is certainly a possibility.

Know the limitations of your tablet before making big plans. Many tablets cannot support Flash, for instance, and may have problems with some applications/environments. The Blackberry tablet, the Blackberry Playbook, is a tablet that can handle Flash.  This type of tablet is perfect for designing while on the go, with its convenient seven-inch design.

Design your web page with your tablet using preferred software. You might need to do some searching on your device’s platform, if, for instance, your tablet is limited by certain apps. Make sure you look at these tools, as well as others (color coordinators, browsers to preview pages, etc.), in order to design while on your tablet.

As you design your web page or website, remember to save your work. You may need to back up data to your primary computer, if applicable. If you have a FTP uploader on your tablet, you may be able to exclusively design on your tablet. Understand how your tablet and other devices work together, as you may need to coordinate files, data, graphics, and other information on other devices.

Portability and versatility are two major advantages for tablets. Take advantage of this and design when it is comfortable with you to do so; tablets make projects like these much easier.
